Top 5 Customer Service Mistakes That Vape Shops Make

If you have ever wanted to give up the smokes with vaping, chances are, you’ve had to venture into your nearest vape shop to try and get some help as to where to start.

Walking into a vape shop can be intimidating for some as they often have a façade and general vibe as say a tattoo or a hobby shop that you weren’t invited to would.

Sure, if you are young and hip as they say, you may be excited to walk in. But if you are an adult or someone that doesn't thrive in trendy places, you may feel like you’d rather keep smoking than walk in.

This, my friends, is the first mistake that vape shops make. They assume everyone that wants to vape is part of a sub culture that thinks it’s cool to vape.

So let’s have a look at the top 5 customer service mistakes that vape shops make.

1. They are not inviting

As mentioned above, a vape shop façade can be created in a way to appeal to a certain demographic and that’s their right to do so. But not all smokers are twenty something cool kids. In fact People aged 25–29 years and 40-49 years had higher smoking rates than other age groups. That’s a lot of people that may feel intimidated with a shop that doesn’t scream “come in, all are welcome, and we’ll help you quit”.

I think vape shops should have more of a non-polarizing entrance and vibe to them, so that smokers aged over 30 may feel like it is a serious place to go to stop smoking. Not a place where you will be judged by the clouds you blow. This leads me to my next point.

2. The Staff Are Blowing Huge Clouds

This is one of the biggest turn offs to a lot of smokers considering vaping. It’s a big enough step to take just to get a vape device when you’ve been smoking all your life, so to think that your vape kit is going to be filling up a room with clouds with every puff, can be the opposite of what you are looking for.

You don’t yet know the difference between mouth to lung and direct lung vaping, You aren’t aware that there are 2 different types of technology in vaping: one that replicates smoking in the amount of vapour it produces and the way it is used and puffed on. The other that is drawn directly into the lung that produces huge plumes of vapour that doesn't replicate smoking in many ways at all.

So sitting behind their counter pumping out clouds of vapour like it’s the coolest thing since sliced bread, will and has, lost you a customer and unfortunately, kept a smoker smoking.

If you are new to vaping, go with a company that  support mouth to lung vapoing for beginners, as you will get a much more realistic vaping experience.

3. They Seem Disinterested

Along with blowing huge clouds, one of the worst customer service mistakes made in vape shops, is a disinterested customer service/sales team. Just because you are in a vape shop, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be providing customer service at the same level as a TV store.

You may have no idea what vaping is about but you know they want to stop vaping. A disinterested vape shop team member with an air of arrogance can be a real detractor. A vape shop should have someone greeting you at the door asking how your day is going and asking if you are new to vaping.

An enthusiastic and helpful staff member can really make a world of difference to someone hesitant to start vaping.

4. They Don't Ask You Questions

A very poor customer service mistake made by a lot of vape shops is that they don’t ask any questions. When I say questions, I mean those relating to your smoking and life habits.

For example, a smoker who smokes 5 a day that works in an office needs a different set up to a 20 a day smoker working in a trade. So how can the vape shop staff member know the best kit to recommend? They need to ask you questions.

What type of questions? Well how about starting with how many ciggies you smoke a day. Otherwise how will you know the battery life you need.

Not asking this question could lead you to go back to smoking very quickly.

Picture this, you get to the end of the day and are having beers with mates and your battery dies. Your mate next to you is smoking ciggies. What would you do? Scab a smoke off them, then 5 later you buy a packet.

Asking the right questions helps you to make your first purchase the right one and gives you the best chance of quitting.

5. They Don't Help You Set Your Kit Up

This is my biggest gripe! If you buy a device, it is the salesman’s job to show you how to use it. How can you be expected to know how to prime a coil or even to turn your variable wattage device down when you first turn it on (as most of are up far to high when you first turn them on)?

How can vaping work for you when your first puff may taste like burnt cotton because you weren’t shown how to prime it?

Explaining how a device works is the duty of the salesman. They are in a business that helps people stop smoking so they need to show you how to use your device.

Not knowing how your device works may send you back to smoking but worse than that it may be dangerous. If the vape shop staff member doesn’t show you how to work your device, ask them to. If they send you to YouTube to figure it out, don’t go back there.

Now you may be asking, aren’t there instructions in the box? Well yes, there is, but they aren’t very good and won’t talk you through what all the pieces are for and may result in a burnt coil on your first puff.

The other really important thing that a lot of vape shops don’t tell you, is not to use an apple usb wall plug as it will cause damage to the battery.  If you take your device home with no warning and you have an iphone plug, you may damage your product straight away. Some retailers and manufacturers will not cover this under warranty.

It certainly is a shame that some vape shops still make these types of mistakes but I’m sure that you, the consumer can change this by simply demanding more from you experience!

This is SO good. TY. Most employees in vape shops ought to learn this. By heart.
